Beginning July 1, 2024, California’s Senate Bill 731 (SB 731) expanded record-sealing opportunities across the state, including for residents of Oceanside. Under this law, many felony convictions that are considered nonviolent, nonserious, and unrelated to sexual offenses may now qualify for automatic sealing – even for those who previously served time in state prison. For offenses that fall outside of these categories, individuals can still request relief by filing a petition with the court. In addition, the California Department of Justice now conducts monthly reviews to identify and process cases that meet the new eligibility criteria.
